Robert W. Leadbetter (Semi-Retired)
ISD’s co-founder, Robert W. Leadbetter, has been a Sign Language Interpreter in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties for over twenty-two (22) years. He is a nationally certified sign language interpreter, currently holding a NIC (National Interpreting Certification) from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf). Over the years, Mr. Leadbetter has worked as a sign language interpreter in varying capacities. Mr. Leadbetter worked at DSB (Deaf Services Bureau) as a community interpreter, VR (Vocational Rehabilitation) as a state employee interpreter, at Miami-Dade Public Schools as an Educational Interpreter, at Sorenson as a video relay interpreter, and finally as a free-lance interpreter, working with various interpreting agencies in various interpreting situations.
Eugene A. Whitton
ISD’s co-founder, Eugene A. Whitton, has been a sign language interpreter in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties for over eleven (11) years. He has worked at Miami-Dade Community College, Wolfson Campus, as a Post-Secondary Education Interpreter, and as a free-lance interpreter working for various interpreting agencies in various interpreting situations, including interpreting at other post-secondary education institutions, medical appointments, as well as for the Broward and Miami-Dade County Public School Systems. Mr. Whitton has a Masters degree from the University of Tennessee in Rehabilitation Counseling (Deaf concentration) and a Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Whitton currently holds a 3.3 Educational Interpreting Performance Assessment and a QA (Quality Assurance) level from FRID (Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf). Mr. Whitton is also is a member of RID.
ISD currently contracts with various community interpreters who possess a wide range of credentials, enabling ISD to provide qualified interpreting services to the Deaf community as required under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). These credentials include the current NIC (National Interpreter Certification), CI (Certified Interpreter), CT (Certified Transliterator), NAD certifications, EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) levels, QA (Quality Assurance) levels and EIE (Educational Interpreter Evaluation) levels. All ISD contract interpreters follow the RID’s Code of Professional Conduct
